57. On 27th February, 1976, Preventive Service officers intercepted Chinese male CHAN Chung-chak (7115/4545/3419) in Keelung St., Kowloon. CHAN was in possession of the key to a nearby flat inside which the officers discovered 1.4892 kilogrammes of a mixture containing 362.7 grammes of salts of esters of morphine and a quantity of heroin packing paraphernalia. Chinese female LAM Lai-ying (2651/7787/5391), found inside the premises, was arrested and jointly charged with CHAN with Possession Of Dangerous Drugs For The Purpose Of Unlawful Trafficking. CHAN and LAM were both found guilty and sentenced to 5 and 4 years' imprisonment respectively.

58. On 18th March, 1976, Preventive Service officers intercepted Chinese male Lo Kwok- kwong (4151/0948/0342) in West Point, Hong Kong, and escorted him to his residence in Des Voeux Rd. A search of the premises revealed 662 packets containing 171 grammes of a mixture containing 29.9 grammes of salts of esters of morphine. Lo was arrested and charged with Posses- sion Of Dangerous Drugs For The Purpose Of Unlawful Trafficking and was sentenced to 4 years' imprisonment.
59. Follow up investigation led to the discovery of a further 2.0633 kilogrammes of a mixture containing 472.4 grammes of salts of esters of morphine in a tenement flat in Quarry Bay, Hong Kong. No arrest was made in connection with this seizure.

60. In the afternoon of 25th March, 1976, acting on information, a party of Narcotics Bureau officers searched a private car parked outside Wang Tau Hom Resettlement Estate, Kowloon. An examination of the boot of the car revealed a cardboard box containing 33.362 kilogrammes of raw opium. No arrest was made in connection with the seizure.

A cardboard box contained in the boot of the car yielded 16 packets of raw opium. Garlic, pieces of which can be seen in the box, had been placed with the opium to conceal its characteristic odour.
