still the most common drug of abuse. Morphine type drugs are often used in combination with other opiates or with cannabis; cannabis is commonly abused with hallucinogens. There have been 14 302 persons recorded for drug abuse, of which 6 255 were abusing opiates, 3 759 cannabis; 2 29 hallucinogens;
1 047 amphetamine-type drugs and 1 212 other substances.
94. GREECE 25/ Over 2 500 persons have been registered for drug abuse, mainly for smoking cannabis 156 inject morphine and about 130 take barbiturates orally, mainly Mandrax. The authorities are concerned with the abuse by young people of psychotropic substances, particularly amphetamines and barbiturates. Barbiturate abusers are between 18 and 25 years old. Cannabis abusers are over 25 years of age. Codeine is often abused in combination with glutethimide. Over 270 persons were arrested for drug offences in 1975. A certain number of drug abusers belong to the criminal underworld.
95. HUNGARY Drug abuse does not constitute a social problem. Only a few sporadic cases of addiction to morphine, synthetic narcotics and psychotropic substances have been observed.
96. IRELAND Abuse of opiates and barbiturates is mostly confined to "hard core" drug users. Cannabis is more widely abused than other drugs, but mostly on an experimental or occasional basis. There is also some abuse of LSD. Over 230 persons were prosecuted, mainly for opiate offences, but also for cannabis and amphetamines. Treatment has been provided to 198 persons abusing opiates and barbiturates, of these 127 were cases first identified during 1975.
97. ITALY 26/ Cannabis, hallucinogens, amphetamines, cocaine, heroin and morphine are abused by young persons of different social backgrounds. There have been 25 deaths related to heroin and morphine mostly among addicts under 25 years of age.
Abuse of drugs continues its upward trend which began some years ago (912 persons prosecuted for drug offences in 1973; 3 347 in 1975). During 1975, 1 244 persons were arrested for cannabis offences, 343 arrested for heroin offences, and over 11 kilogrammes of cocaine were seized.
98. LUXEMBOURG There has been a slight increase in the number of persons abusing drugs (199 in 1974, 222 in 1975). Cannabis and hallucinogens are the drugs being abused.

MALTA There is some abuse of sedative-hypnotics (mainly methaqualone by adolescents), of amphetamines (often combined with hypnotics), and of opiates. The main problems associated with drug abuse are antisocial behaviour among young drug abusers and social crippling among adults.
100. MONACO Abuse of sedative-hypnotics, mainly Mandrax, Fortal and Mogadon, has been observed. Most of the persons abusing these drugs are foreigners, but there are also some young abusers among the native population. The main problems associated with drug abuse are of a psycho-social nature.
