Since this telegram was sent to the U.K. Mission, I have heard nothing further, and wonder whether a final decision on the conference has yet been taken, for if so, it would be advisable to book the hotel and arrange the meeting facilities as soon as possible, as October is a popular month for overseas tourists ? As of now, we believe that we could obtain accommodation in the Excelsior Hotel, Hong Kong, with free conference facilities, provided that all participants are accommodated there. The rate of accommodation for a single room with bath will be HK$175 less 25% commercial discount, i.e., approximately US$28.
In the circumstances, I should appreciate details as soon as possible of the number of participants and overseas staff/lecturers to be accommodated so that tentative bookings can be made, and also on the proposed agenda. Perhaps you would also let me know whether you would wish to schedule visits to the Government Laboratory here, and possibly to the Police Narcotics Bureau during the course of the conference.
Should you wish to send a reply by telex to this letter, I am sure that Mr. Desmond Cecil of the U.K. Mission would be glad to provide the facilities.
