I am informed that the drugs case in which Mr. Peter Crowder Q.C. represents the accused is still subjudice and in these circumstances it would not be appropriate for me to comment. However, I do not believe your general criticisms of police procedures and the production of prosecution papers are justified.
The important point of course is that Mr. Clements is yet to be tried. If there are allegations relating to police conduct or to the case against Mr. Clements, these may be raised at the committal proceedings or the trial (if he is committed for trial).
You have referred to the "pressure of legal dates". I understand that committal proceedings will begin on 10 June.
If Mr. Clements is committed for trial on a charge of murder, he will be tried before a Jury in the Supreme Court some months later. There is clearly ample time for him to apply for legal aid, should he wish to do so, and for counsel and solicitors to be assigned and instructed."
