Thank you for your letter of 7 November about

Christopher Clements of Kesgrave, Near Ipswich, who is awaiting trial in Hong Kong.

Since you saw Mr and Mrs Clements they should have received a letter which the Prison Superintendent sent then at the beginning of the month answering most of their enquiries. In this letter the Superintendent informed Mr and Mrs Clements that it will be possible for ther to provide their son with fresh clothing for his trial. He also said that arrangerents had been made for them to call on their son at 4.15 pm on Sunday

11 December for at least one hour. The length of the visit may be extended at the time. This is a special concession since visits to remand prisoners are not normally allowed on Sundays. The Superintendent has agreed to make an exception in this case because Mr and Mrs Clements will not be arriving in Hong Kong until that weekend.

The Hong Kong Government have informed me that the prison authorities will be sending copies of the relevant prison regulations to Mr and wrs Clements and will inform them, when they arrive in Hong Kong, of prisoners' rights, visiting facilities, and any other points on which assistance may be required. Hormally, prisoners on remand may receive visitors on every day except Sat- urday, Sunday and Bank Holidays. As a rule visits are limited to 15 minutes, but this may be extended at the Prison Superintendent's discretion.
