(Document shown to witness) This is letter addressed to our bank.
Letter having been dealt with will be kept by the Bank's Filing
Department. Whon a letter has been dealt with it is sent to Filing
Department. Prior to 1972 letter would then be kept for 7 years and
after that it would be destroyed. Policy since 1972 we now microfilm letter and original will be destroyed. (Letter is dated August 1971)
All letters from beginning of 1972 until July 1974 have been destroyed and microfilmed. Letters from 1/7/74 up till present day we still
have originals and Department is in process of destroying letters from 1/7/74. I produce the lctter (P.73). Current account statements
are kept for 6 months and they are then microfilmed and original
destroyed. The microfilms are kept by the Microfilms Library in the
Head Offico. A form is filled out by Current Accounts Department
and taken down to Microfilms Library and we would produce a copy. At the beginning of each microfilm there is a certificate signed by operator and supervisor in-charge and at the end of the film thero is also signature by operator and supervisor in-charge. Ledger kept
to show statements put to certain date have boon destroyed but does not detail which documents have been destroyed. (Folder of documents shown to witness) These are current account statements of Mr. Cunningham's current account dating 30/9/66 until 3/8/75. The larger number of documents are taken from microfilms - from 30/9/66 until 13/7/74. The latter ones are photocopies or original duplicates
kept by the bank. We have those originals.
Mr. Sceats: Ask that photocopies be admitted under Section 20 of Evidence Ordinance and microfilms under Section 40 of Evidence
Ordinance.
