On the evidence the following inferences seem logical.
The agreement made at the Harbour Hotel was made
in good faith, without betrayal, deceit or trickery.
A code of honour amongst the underworld prevailed, and no
one thought they had done anything improper or dishonourable.
They were simply persuading someone whom they knew to be
guilty to permit himself to be arrested, to the benefit
of all. LEUNG thought he was acting honourably by his sacrifice, and the others, including LAU Cheong-wah and
YIP Yin, reciprocated by doing what they could for him
and his family.

7. The Trial
LEUNG Wing-sang was represented by counsel during committal proceedings in the Causeway Bay Magistrate's Court, during his trial before the Supreme Court, and during his appeal
before the Full Court. At no time was the issue of
payment of $10,000 raised.
Throughout these procecdings LEUNG Wing-sang maintained
his innocence not only in respect of the charge of murder but also the charges of wounding. The admissibility of his cautioned statement was challenged by his counsel during the trial in the Supreme Court, on the sole ground that ergeant YIP Yin had written out a statement on a
piece of paper and instructed LEUNG to copy it into YIP's notebook, at the same time saying that everything would be all right if he copied it. The trial judge overruled defence counsel's objection and admitted the cautioned statement in evidence. The conduct of the dofence was
clearly inconsistent with an inducement to confess to
wounding.
