On the following day, i.e., 30th July, 1973, there was a meeting at Chatin Heights Hotel between LEUNG Wing-sang, CHAN Loi-fat, LAW Ming-bak, LEE Chi-lung, SZETO Wah and YICK Chung After staying at the Hotel for a while, the

that occasion was that LEUNG should "surrender" himself

to the Police or allow himself to be arrested. Some of those present also said LAU Cheong-wah had promised that LEUNG would be charged with wounding or affray only and probably be sent to prison for not more than two years. LAW also said he would render financial assistance to LEUNG's family whilst he was in prison. It was further said that if LEUNG agreed to the arrangement then LAW and his people would be "released". further informed that the Police already knew he was involved and were in possession of his photograph. He was told that the Police would be able to locate and

arrest him sooner or later. LEUNG wanted confirmation from LAU Cheong-wah before committing himself.

a telephone call was made to LAU and he agreed to meet the party at the Harbour Hotel, Gloucester Road the same night. LAU promised over the telephone that should negotiations with LEUNG fail, he would allow LEUNG to leave, suspend his pursuit of LEUNG for ten hours, and then resume his efforts to arrest him.

LAU's promise was no doubt attributable to a code of honour observed by the underworld.

The meeting took place in a room in the Harbour Hotel. Present were LEUNG Wing-sang, CHAN Loi-fat, LAW Ming- tak, SZETO Wah and YICK Chung, and also LAU Cheong-wah and his sergeant YIP Yin. LEE Chi-lung waited down- stairs. During the meeting, the possibility of a murder charge was briefly mentioned but quickly dismissed. LAU Cheong-wah assured LEUNG he would be charged with wounding or affray only and at most be imprisoned for two years.
