5. Nature of the Evidence
A major portion of the evidence may be divided into two
groups, one supporting LEUNG Wing-sang's case and the
other supporting the case for the Police and LAU Cheong-wah.
One Common feature of both groups of evidence is the
abundance of half-truths, inconsistencies, improbabilities,
embellishments and obvious lies. Using the criterion of
a reasonably intelligent person with common sense and a
knowledge of local conditions, the essential facts may
still be extracted from the evidence. These facts may
now be stated with a considerable degree of confidence.
