Colonial Prisoners' Removal Act, 1884 Prisoners No. 23130 Donald David Bassett and No. 23129 George William Puttock
The above two British soldiers (namely, 24256077 TPR. Bassett and 24287029 GNR. Puttock) were sentenced to death for murder on 30.6.76. Their applications for leave to appeal against conviction were dismissed by the Court of Appeal on 10th February 1977. On 28th June 1977 the Governor in Council commuted their death sentences to sentences of life imprisonment.
Under the provision of Section 2(b) of the Colonial Prisoners' Removal Act, 1884, these two prisoners are eligible to be removed to serve their sentences in the United Kingdom. Both prisoners have expressed a desire to serve their sentences in the United Kingdom, and it is now proposed to so remove them.
I should be grateful, therefore, if you would approach the Home Office to seek a Removal Order for these two prisoners, whose particulars
