Re

Liu Ping-hon's Death

P.3

He had further applied to be a member of the Auxilliary

Police Force, and pursuant to this application was due

to attend a Medical Board on August 2, 1977.

Liu Ping-hon was also an A.M.S. with the St.

John's Ambulance Brigade, the latter being an entirely

voluntary position.

KNOWN CIRCUMSTANCES IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO DEATH

The deceased's mother, Madam Liu King-yee, gave evidence that

on the morning of Tuesday, July 26, Liu Ping-hon had woken

some time after 6.00 am. He was in a happy mood, and talked

with her as he did some exercises on the balcony. Part of

the conversation was as to the salary increment he could now

expect in the next month as the result of the official

confirmation of his honours degree, Madam Liu testifying that

he was very happy about his prospects. There was some

discussion about what Liu Ping-hon was going to eat for

breakfast, and he then offered to go downstairs to buy some

person lying on the other side of the road outside the Hon

Ming Building, the building directly across from the Tung Chi

Building in which they lived. A crowd had gathered. She did

not believe it could be her son and rushed back up to the

kindergarten to see if the clothing on the body (red and white

striped shirt and brown trousers), which she had recognised as

similar to her son's clothing, was still in her son's closet.

It was not, and she returned downstairs once again with the

realisation that the body on the road was her son.

A further witness, one Hung Yu Chung who described

himself as the deceased's best friend and who had known him

since 1964, testified that on the previous evening ie the

evening of July 25 he had visited Liu Ping-hon at his home
