1. Mr. Liu requested Mr. I.H. Lam to help him in translation of a memo
the office. He wanted to get the wording to be exactly correct.
After this was done, and in response to a question from Mr. Lam, Mr. Liu said that his job was not easy, with so much paperwork to cover and many new procedures to be learned. However, Mr. Liu
continued, his colleagues are conscientious, they don't look down on him, and they teach him the necessary procedures.
Mr. Liu went on to discuss his social relations at work. Because
he believed that police affairs are complicated and involved, he
had decided not to join members of the uniformed force at the bar
where they customarily take beer.

Yip, the third party on this morning walk, later asked
Mr. Liu if he would bu able to join a camping party the next weekend.
He apologized, but he had to do his volunteer service next weekend
t the St. John's ambulance brigade.
if The next deposition records Mr. Liu's conversation on the evening
of Monday, July 25, 1977, at 9:00 to 9:45 p.m. This is less than 12 hours before his death. A good friend of Mr. Liu, Mr. Y. T. Hung
was living some difficulties with his girlfriend. Informally and
without an appointment he stopped by Mr. Liu's flat to seek some
advice.
(It may be pointed out here that Mr. Liu's advice and
counsel was often sought by other students).
Mr. Hung reports that Mr. Liu answered the door immediately when
he rang, showing no signs of unhappiness. He expressed great
willingness to discuss Mr. Hung's problem with him.
Various topics were discussed and I shall report the more important
