Indeed, on his obtaining his

Government position, with consequent financial security

for the family for first time, he was in the process of

trying to persuade his aged mother to retire from her

menial work. As it was, he lived with her in the

kindergarten and made every effort to assist her in

this employment.

Personality

as

Liu Ping-hon's outward and happy personality,

demonstrated to his family and to his numerous friends

and student colleagues, was patently not the nature of

a person who might be thought to possess what are

colloquially-termed "suicidal tendencies". His whole

history was that of a man energetically involved in

life, and any consideration of his struggles through

exam failures and financial deprivation to arrive where

he was is such as to totally refute any suggestion that

he may have given it all up and committed suicide. His

whole pattern of living shortly before his death was

that of a person with every expectation of a bright

future.

The Morning of his Death

He had left his mother in a happy mood to go down to

buy bread. It seems highly improbable that he would

have made up his mind there and then to go into a

strange building (he had apparently not been there

before and would not have known whether or what parts

were locked) and then jump from some part thereof.

Indeed, if he had been minded to commit suicide, it

would seem both easier and more logical to have used

his own building, which was 10 storeys high, and with

an easily accessible and familiar roof. Moreover,

the contents of his pockets - $39, I.D. Card, swimming

pool card, keys, student rail ticket, pens, diary
