Your letter of 22nd April addressed to the Secretary
for Security has been passed to me.
The allegations which Mrs. Elliott has made in her duplicated letter to MPs are the subject of a petition to the Governor from the ad hoc committee to which she refers. It would not seem appropriate for me to comment before that petition has been replied to and, unless you see objection, I propose to send you copies of the reply which can then be sent to the MPS who have written to Lord Goronwy-Roberts. will appreciate that it may take some little time to investigate all the allegations.
You
To date, we have only sent an interim reply on 13th April (the petition was dated 22nd March) asking the signatories of the letter to the Governor to let us have a copy of the statement by the new witness who they say has come forward to testify.
