HONG KONG-YAUMATI FERRY COMPANY spokesman, quoted in a special feature in WAH KIU MAN PO (June 25), said the proposal would bring benefits to transport businesses and help the company "to gain more money." BUT a spokesman for KMB, asked to comment, said he did not believe the new system would help solve traffic congestion.

HK TIMES (June 26) analysed the pros and cons and decided that permanent Summer Time would have more desirable effects on the middle-lower classes. HK TIMES doubted the sincerity of the communist papers' objections and believed these were political, in particular based on the use of the phrase "Hong Kong Time."

THE STAR (June 19) in an editorial called on the public to look at the proposal "sensibly, without personal prejudice." It pointed out these distinct advantages: A saving of electricity and an end to the inconvenience and confusion of changing clocks twice a year.

HK DAILY NEWS (July 1) said in an editorial that if a question on the issue were added to the coming by-census we would find the majority are in favour of Summer Time despite the protests of certain elements.
