A TIMELY TOPIC
A major controversy has been played out in the media
in recent weeks over a Government proposal to use the present Summer

all year round.
The proposal was contained in a Bill published on June 4
and was vigorously defended at a Press Conference on June 18 by the
Secretary for Economic Services, Mr. Derek Jones, and the Acting Director
of the Royal Observatory, Mr. John Peacock.
From the outset the Communist Press was vehemently opposed
to the idea, and continues to snipe at the proposal. The non-Communist
Press, while more balanced both in its opinions and the views of people
quoted, has tended generally to oppose the proposal.
Because of the bulk of reports and Editorials on the subject,
Press comments are categorised "Those Not In Favour" and "Those In
Favour," giving in each case the arguments of the newspapers or people
quoted.
