BLOCK RESUMPTION OF LAND FOR SHA TIN NEW TOWN

STAGE II, PHASE I DEVELOPMENT OF AREAS 10,

24D(PART), 27(PART), 29A(PART), 29B(PART), 29C(PART), 29D (PART) AND ROAD P1(PART),

SHA TIN, NEW TERRITORIES

The Project Manager, Sha Tin, has requested the acquisition of about 8.8 hectares of private land in the above development areas. The land is required for two public housing estates, a temporary housing area, and associated road works and services. Development will be divided into 2 phases, namely:

(a)

(b)

the first phase of the development requires the land to be cleared by July 1978, and provides land for

a public housing estate in Area 10 with a population capacity of almost 20, 000, sites for temporary housing in Areas 27 and 29B to house about 4, 000 people, and the associated road works and services;

the second phase, which required the land to be cleared by mid 1979, will provide a site for a public housing estate in Area 29A with a population capacity of about 20,000, together with the

associated road works and services.

These projects are part of the Sha Tin New Town Stage II - Phase I Development and are included in Category A of the Public Works Programme,

The use of block resumption procedures is considered appropriate in order that preparatory work can be done in advance of finalising the design work, particularly the design of roads for Phase I development.

3

The general location of the land to be resumed is shown coloured orange on the annexed Identification plan. About fifty industrial undertakings, mainly car-breaking yards, are operating under Short Term Waivers or Tenancies on both private land and Crown land in Area 27. Approximately 50% of the private land in Area 29A is under
