The Director of Public Works has recommended the resumption of 26, 650 square feet (about 2,476 square metres) of private building land for the construction of roads and drains in Area 9N and Roads D4 and D5, Tuen Mun New Town. This project is in Category 'A' of the Public Works Programme under NDE1(8), and development work is scheduled to commence at the end of August 1977,

The general location of the land is shown coloured orange on the identification plan at Annex A. The Secretary for the New Territories is satisfied that the land to be resumed is the minimum necessary to implement this project. Compensation for resumption and clearance is estimated to be $2,645,000 and is within the approved project estimate.

The clearance will also involve Crown land and the payment of compensation for crops, fruit trees and fences together with ex-gratia allowance to cultivators will be necessary. No private agricultural land is involved in this resumption/clearance.

Six temporary structures, used for domestic purposes and situated on Crown land, will also have to be cleared. These are occupied by six families, who, if found eligible, will be offered public housing. As there may be insufficient accommodation in Tai Hing Estate at Tuen Mun to house all eligible families, public housing elsewhere or space in a licensed area in Tuen Mun may have to be offered in some cases. In the latter event, an ex-gratia building allowance of $1,000 per eligible family will be paid. Families in- eligible for public housing will only be offered space in a licensed

area,
