(5) All organizers of roof-top school are non-profit making
bobies. The reason for their running such schools is
purely for the sake of education, and not as a means of earning a living. Hence, all equipments and construction costs are borne by the schools themselves with no subventions from the Government. The question of imposing heavy rent on these schools and thus forcing to close down could only be justified if the 8,700 students and 400 teachers concerned were properly accomodated and the equipments and construction costs well compensated for the 43 roof-top schools. In my case, the member schools of our Association are strongly opposed to this unscrupulous policy. Our aims are to promote mass education and keep the labouring public in Resettlement Estates Educate their children. We hope you would give due consideration to our request and order the Housing Department to withdraw this rent increase on roof-top schools so that we could still be able to serve the public and fulfill our objective of mass education. We are looking forward to receiving your favourably reply.
