Operators of shops cleared form Cottage Areas and the operators of com- mercial undertakings as listed below, cleared from structures previously' covered by Crown Land Licence/Modification of Tenancy or squatter structures covered by the 1976 Squatter Control Survey or relevant district surveys in the New Territories; or in Class III Licensed Areas.

Shops and the following miscellaneous undertakings:

fortune-telling

wholesaling

bicycle-hiring

herbalist

medical clinic furniture hiring decorating

temples operated by

individuals

Previous Rates

$120 per sq.ft. for initial 50 sq.ft. plus $30 per addi- tional sq.ft. there- after subject to a maximum of $20,000.

Revised Rates

(i) $120 per sq.ft.

remains unchanged for the initial 50 sq.ft.

(ii) the rate of $120 ·

per sq.ft. to be extended from 50 sq.ft. to 75 sq. ft. in an ascending graduated increase formula.

(iii) the rate of $30 per

sq.ft. remains un- changed for the next 425 sq.ft. while a rate of $20 per sq. ft. applies there- after.

(iv) a maximum limit of

$50,000.

(v) the allowance is

extended to include open-sided canopies and storage space in either semi- detached or detached enclosures.

(vi) an allowance of $7

per sq.ft. is extended to open working areas

Main Reasons for Revision

Medium and large

operators were dis- satisfied with the old rates and the maximum limit of $20,000 which were introduced in 1969. The revision ensures that the large operators receive the maximum benefit and this will facilitate clearance. Both (v) and (vi) form an integral part of the business operation.
