Families upon clearance also qualified for an ex-gratia Building Allowance of $1,000 per family, irrespective of family size and income limits, where the family was eligible for public housing but none was available locally. This allowance was payable on the condition that such families accepted temporary housing in the district in lieu of public housing elsewhere. Families who received the Building Allowance were not eligible for the Rehousing Allowance.
