HONG KONG VISAS FOR BULGARIANS

We spoke about a telephone call that Miss Turner made to the department from the Private Office this afternoon. She said that she had been rung by Mr Ian Mikardo MP
(Labour Tower Hamlets, Bethnal Green and Bow), who was concerned that four Bulgarian buyers, who had applied for visas to visit Hong Kong on 3-7 July, had not received any reply to their applications. I suggested to Miss Turner that she return to Mr Mikardo in an attempt to discover via him to what Office it was that the Bulgarians originally applied. It could be that there was some bureaucratic delay which a little Private Office interest might dissolve.
2. I fear, however, that the Bulgarians will be disappointed and it may well be that Mr Mikardo takes up their cause.
