Dear Mr David,
DAM LE QUAN
1.
2.
4
Thank you for your unnumbered letter of 8 August to my predecessor.
I am afraid I have no information on Miss Dam Le Quan's case which would not be available to Hong Kong. I pass any applications for settlement there which reach me from people in South Vietnam to the Vietnamese Section of Hong Kong Immigration Department who process them in the same way as those which reach them through sponsors in Hong Kong. To give you an idea of the size of the operation, I understand Hong Kong have 11,000 applications outstanding at present.
3. Although I naturally do not know whether the Immigration Department will accept the Tan family, you may wish to know that in a similar case the Home Office recently refused to grant UK entry visas to the Vietnamese family of a four year old girl born in Cardiff.
4.
I took your interim reply to Dam Le Quan down to Ho Chi Minh City on a recent visit there and asked our unofficial representative to pass it on to her.
Yours ever,
Barbara Luke.
