Of the 220 arrested, 40 were land crossers and 180 bay crossers, Most of them were between 16 25 years of age. All were processed at Takuling and consequently 215 were repatriated during the month, 3 were allowed to stay and the remaining 2 were awaiting a decision. In addition, 8 illegal immigrants who were arrested in June and July were repatriated to China in August. The highest number of illegal immigrants arrested on any one day during the month was 22 on 10th August.
On 11th August, a group of 3 illegal immigrants (2 men and 1 boy) boarded a Hong Kong bound cargo train at Canton North Station and succeeded in evading searches by hiding among the goods. On arrival at Fanling Railway Station, they were seen by railway staff who informed the Police. The illegal immigrants were arrested and repatriated to China the next day.
