The figure of illegal immigrants claiming to have": evaded controls since 30th November 1974 is 12,048. The ratio of interceptions against evasions is now 1:4.42.

Macao

11.

3 illegal immigrants were referred to this department by the Marine Police and their cases are still being processed. 3 illegal immigrants who were arrested by the Police in March were removed to Macao in May.

Registration of illegals

12.

During May 614 persons (compared with 538 last... month) registered with the Registration of Persons Office, claiming to have entered Hong Kong illegally from various sources. The figure includes 499 persons (compared with 440 last month) claiming to have come from China.

Since 1962, the Registration of Persons Office has registered a total of 316, 204 persons who claimed to have entered Hong Kong illegally from various sources, primarily from China. The cumulative total of such registrations since January 1968 is 125,041.

The attached appendices B - H give details of arrests of illegal immigrants from China and Macao during May.
