Answer

We accept that cases of statelessness could result in the circumstances you describe. The United Kingdom and dependencies already go to greater lengths than many countries to guard against statelessness, and would still do so if the ideas in the Green Paper are embodied in legislation. There must be some limit however as to how far we

can make up for the gaps in the nationality laws of other countries and confer citizenship upon people simply because they are stateless when their claim to another nationality is more pressing.
