PROPOSED VISIT BY THE SUN NEWSPAPER TO HONG KONG

Robert Bolton of "The Sun" newspaper has approached the Public Relations organisation with a request to visit Hong Kong.

2. I think it easiest if I quote direct from a letter he wrote to DPR (A) describing his intention, "... my objective is to tell the present-day story of the life of Britain's troops on the colony and to show its continued importance to the West. My article would show that we maintain a not inconsiderable presence in HK ̧ One aim would be to depict (with pictures if possible) sections or groups of servicemen on exercises, or on some social mission in the community. I would offer my newspaper a feature on the British scene in HK which could include interviews with soldiers and possibly other servicemen about their experiences in this far-flung posting".

3. Mr Bolton would wish to visit HK during a month's "sabbatical" which his 'paper has given him. He would write a payer for his editor (not for publication) on HK as part of the sabbatical exercise. He would stay in a hotel during his visit. CPR,

CPR, who has seen Mr Bolton's letter, feels that on balance we should grant his request.

4. I would be obliged if you would confirm that you have no objections to this visit's taking place. Our staff in Hong Kong have stated that they would accept him for one wee from 28 February.
