Mr Wilberforce
CONFIDENTIAL
PRESS VISIT TO DIEGO GARCIA
1.
During my recent visit to Hong Kong I was asked to contact you to provide quickly:
(i)
(ii)
a line for the Hong Kong Government Information Services to use with the press and other media when the proposed visit was announced;
some indication of how long the various groups of journalists would be staying in Hong Kong and what they will want to see and do when they arrive;
(iii) information on whether those journalists joining the party
in Singapore will be coming back to Hong Kong or getting off again at Singapore on the return flight;
(iv) that Hong Kong be told urgently of the hotel requirements
of the journalists or whether they will be making their own arrangements. Hotel rooms at this time are in very short supply in Hong Kong and bookings should be made very early.
2. I was asked that you should reply by telegram.
