We discouraged Housego from pursuing this line of thought by pointing out, for example, that a good number of PQs dealt with pretty specialized aspects of Hong Kong's affairs which had engaged the interest of a particular MP, e.g. Mr Robert Parry's questions on the New Territories.

Housego struck me as a conscientious and serious correspond- ent and I am hopeful that his reporting on Hong Kong will strike the right note. He did not say whether he would be asking to see the Governor or officials but if he does do so I think it would be worth your while to pay him a little attention.
