On 7th January 1976, a special mecting was held between the Staff Side and the Education Department Consultative Council, in which our representatives from 12 Units unanimously opposed the relevant conversion. During the 3 meetings that followed (hold in January, March and May respectively), the Staff Side kept making queries which had not been replied. Government's irresponsible attitude had brought about a "signature-campaign" in opposing the subject matter by all professional members of the Education Department (refer Enclosure IV). The mentioned signature-filled forms and a letter of appeal was handed to the Chief Secretary through the Director of Education at the meeting held on 4th May 1976. At the meeting our Union has stressed that we would not let the subject matter bc matorialised. We claim the Government's sole responsibilities and liabilities to any con- sequence hereafter, should the government insist on their ignorance and offer no proper amendments in this connection.
Now that June has come and on the 15th of this month, several Government Primary Schools will discontinue their sessions and the sell-out be in effect shortly. The whole members of our Union have been emotionally disturbed. We trust that with mutual under- standing together with reasonings, the Government will attend this matter properly. We wish to hereby draw your kind attention, and have the irrational scll-out be removed as soon as possibly
can.
We very much appreciate your sympathetic consideration in
this matter.
Yours faithfully,
Signed
(Leung Yim-tong)
