THE K.C.R. RAILWAY STATION AT TSIM SHA TSUI

1.

THE HONG KONG HERETAGE SOCIETY HEREBY PETITIONS THAT:-

The K.C.R. Buildings at Tsim Sha Tsui be made the subject

of a comprehensive conservation order to ensure the preservation of

the major brick and stone structure including the clock tower as indicated in colour on the attached diagrammatic drawing.

2.

An independent inquiry chaired by an independent architect/planner of international repute, be convened so that:- (a) the views of all Government Departments, the Urban

Council, the Antiquities Advisory Board, other

interested bodies, and the public can be made known

openly and frankly, and a sensible and informed.

replanning of the area can be achieved;

.:

(b) a study of the tip of the Tsim Sha Tsui peninsula can

be made to consider and incorporate into the development

plans for the area:-

(i) the conservation of the K.C.R. buildings;

(ii) the conservation of the Tsim Sha Tsui Marine Police

Station and its hill;

(iii) firm new uses for the accommodation within the

buildings which are compatible with those plans (c) A comprehensive re-examination of the total urban design

problems of the area as a whole be undertaken to integrate

and consider the numerous demands and uses of the area in

the light of changed circumstances, and fresh problems in

the past few years.
