xii) Carparking access and egress and servicing of the Cultural Precinct would be from Salisbury Road in line with that proposed in official layouts and a long marquise (S) along the south side of Salisbury Road would permit the arrival and departure of taxis or private
cars.
Thus the Cultural Precinct would be envisaged as an integral part of the pedes- trian movement patterns of the area and fully linked to all modes of transport and service rather than designed as an isolated monument - a package unto itself.
It is stressed that this diagram is "a diagram" of a suggested approach to the resolution of a complex series of problems and the exact configuration and detailed relationship could only be established after the determination of the final detailed requirements and schedules of accommodation.
Its purpose is however to show that by taking the existing elements and the problems which now exist (and they have it is realised changed considerably in recent years) a proposal is possible, having imaginative architectural potential AND permitting the conservation of Hong Kong's heritage. The result would have a character which could be only in Hong Kong because it is de- rived from the situation and not imposed upon it.
