iv) The MTR station. In the initial phase of the MTR a single station

in Nathan Road will be provided. At a later stage a further line will involve a second station nearby. Both of these could become important interchange points and both could with advantage be linked to other transport modes (possibly underground).

v) Surface movement of. taxis and private vehicles giving access to

the Star Ferry and KCR new underground station as well as to the new Cultural Centre which should have its own car parking facili- ties.

It should be borne in mind that as many as 5000 people or more could be involved within the Cultural complex at a single time although their access and egress may well be 'phased'.

EXISTING BUILDINGS & PHYSICAL FEATURES

These involve both recent and older buildings, which should be retained in the plan for the area, and include:

i) The existing KCR old Terminal Buildings are indicated in the

Annex 'A' of this petition shown in solid black tone on plan Annex 'B'.

ii) The existing Hill, trees and buildings of the Marine Police

Station (M) on the plan ''.

iii) The existing Market Building (S) on plan.

iv) The Planetarium Building 'G' which is currently under construction.

v) New or sound Buildings such as the Ocean Terminal, Star House, YMCA, Peninsula Hotel etc., which obviously cannot be changed.

A POSSIBLE RELATIONSHIP (See Diagram Annex KCR Cultural Precinct TST)

The Plan which has been drawn showing potential diagrammatic re- lationships has been done with the intention of exploring the possibility of retaining all the buildings listed under 1.2. and resolving the linkages which are desirable between the transport modes listed as 1.1.

The diagram also seeks to explore the possible PEDESTRIANISATION of a maximum area having strong physical and visual links with the area as a whole and with the Harbour views. It also seeks to take advantage of the separation of different movement patterns by use of the existing and created differences of level.

For ease of reading the diagram is explained from left to right.

i) The existing Star Ferry Concourse area is proposed as completely

pedestrianised except for the permitted entry of official cars for formal openings and other ceremonial occasions. This allows
