The Colonial Secretary Colonial Secretariat

Dear Sir,

On behalf of the Kowloon Residents Association, I would like to bring forward to Government that we are strongly in favour of r taining the Railway Hall and the Clock Tower at Tsimshatsui in Kowloon, and would be grateful if our request would be given due consideration.

Since it is a well known design and landmark the world over, this particular location could serve many purposes to advantage. It could serve as Civic Centre with exhibition halls for the displey of Hong Kong goods, such as carpets, ivory, clothing, printings etc. It could have our Town Hall with many other added features that could be a prestige to Kowloon. At least some corner of the building should be preserved and the landmark should not be completely removed. The exterior could be kept intact, while the interior of the building could be renovated and modernised. Such a renovation could be planned to great advantage. The City could be beautified and a playground/ open space could be planned in common with the building.

We do not think it would cost a lot to leave this old landmark as it is and would ask you to seriously consider our proposal.

May I thank you for your kind consideration on this matter and I look forward to your reply with great interest.

c.c. Mr. Yu Look Yau

Yours faithfully,

For KOWLOON RESIDENTS' ASSOCIATION,
