To remove present anomalies by requiring all overseas licence holders to take a driving test. to obtain a Hong Kong licence.
To plan the future role of the tram on the Island.
To prepare development plans for transport services, as part of an overall development plan for Hong Kong.
To establish a parking policy for lorries.
Revised draft legislation has been prepared. This branch will circulate a revised draft ExCo paper which incorporates comments from Departments.
(a) Several discussions have been held
with the Company;
(b) Transport Department, P.W.D. and the
Company are considering the possi- bility of a tram extension to Chaiwan; (c) The need for additional depot space
at Aldrich Bay or some other appropriate location is under consideration;
(d) P.W.D. have introduced some track reservations and will liaise with the Company on new reservations.
Drafts of the main plans on waterborne transport underground rail, surface rail and road transport are under considera- tion. Further information is awaited from M.T.R., G.M.R. and D.E.D./P.W.D. (a) a T.A.C. paper is being drafted to
propose solutions to the problem; (b) An ExCo paper is being drifted to
revise temporary lorry park charges.

Continue discussions an upgraded tram as alternative for an M.T.R. Island line:a Chaiwan extension; depot needs; and extended tram reservations.
