Comprehensive Transport Study (TC 247/75 II)

PURPOSE
To make consultancy plans for all transport facilities over the years to 1991 and to develop a White Paper on Transport Policy.
To develop a Programme Plan for the K.C.R. based on a proposed consultancy study on the modernization of the railway.
PROGRESS MADE & PRESENT POSITION
(a) The consultants' Comprehensive Transport
Study Report is expected to be printed by the end of November and will then be submitted to ExCo;
(b) The Report will be published later in
the year, with Government comments thereon;
(c) The Government will then initiate
preparation of a White Paper on Transport Policy.
(a) The Programme Plan Steering Group
met on 6.8.76 to consider a possible K.C.R./M.T.R. interchange station at Kowloon Tong; investigation into this is continuing;
NEXT QUARTER TARGETS
(a) Take the Report
to ExCo in Mid December;

(c) Start to draft the
White Paper.
(a) Progress consider- ation of an inter- change station at Kowloon Tong;

(b) Detailed proposals for carrying out
studies into the modernization of the railway have been received from three consultants. These are under consider- ation, as is the role of the Steering Group in selecting the consultants.
(b) Select and appoint consultants by the end of December.
