Advisory Committee on Environmental Pollution (EPCOM) (ENV 25/41/02)
PURPOSE
To review the EPCOM membership after its first three year term of office which terminates on 31.12.76.
(a) To keep a constant watch on the
environment and pollution.
PROGRESS MADE & PRESENT POSITION
H.E. The Governor has already approved a list of re-appointed unofficial members together with seven newly appointed unofficial members to replace some non- contributing ones. Most of these appoint- ments have been accepted and their new term of office will start on 1.2.77 lasting for one year.
(a) The 11th Meeting, the last one of the
EPCOM's first three year term of office, was held on 15.12.76 to discuss the Sub-Committee reports and recom- mendations. More important recommend- ations include:-
(i)
Government should continue its efforts to control the activit- ies of the remaining New
Territories tanneries and to
prevent the old Sheung Shui
tanners from setting up illegal
operations elsewhere in the
New Territories;
(ii) The effects of aircraft noise on
schools under the flight path should be systematically studied
(iii) It is most important that Government should provide
proper air monitoring facilities.

(a) The next EPCOM
meeting will be held in April.
