Furpose
Progress Made & Present Position Next Quarter Targets
(a) To evolve and agree polic(a)(i)
for the control of hawking activities.

relating to hawker control and management.

Final draft of a compre- hensive policy options paper on the subject of hawker management is now being drawn up in Environ- ment Branch, in consultation with relevant departments. Following issue of this paper, an inter-departmental Leeting is planned to consider the options. (ii) Arrangements are in hand
to establish more effective communications between Environment Branch and the Urban Council, with the aim of providing a better working relationship between policy and resource provision.
Legislation related to the control and management of hawkers is currently unsatis- factory and unnecessarily complicated. It will be necessary to overhaul this legislation, and it is currently thought that such an exercise would best be undertaken in conjunc- tion with the major xeview of harker policy which is now in hand.
