Country Parks

(ENV 30/15/01)

(a) To define the location

and boundaries of country parks and special

areas.

(b) To provide legislation and regulations to

specify the conditions and use of country parks and special areas.

(a) The first three country parks

at Shing Mun, Lion Rock and Kam Shan together with the first Special Area at Tai Po Kau were designated in June. Further country parks at Aberdeen and Tai Tam on Hong Kong Island, and at Sai Kung East and Sai Kung West in the New Territories are being processed for designa- tion. Preliminary work on the boundaries of country parks at Plover Cove and on Lantau Island are also in hand.

(b) The country parks regulations

were made in June. AFD country parks staff are now preparing for full imple- mentation and enforcement of these regulations by Septem- ber.

(a) Designate

Aberdeen and Tai

Tam country parks by October, Sai Kung country parks by November and Plover Cove country park by January.

(b) Full implementa-

tion of country parks regulations to be put into effect by 1st September.

policy for the control of hawking activities.

An inter-departmental meeting to discuss hawker policy in the light of the recent ICAC report

on this subject was held

resou ces in this field, with the object of

introducing more effective hawker management.

(ii) Arrangements are in hand

to establish more effective: communications between Environment Branch and the Urban Council, with the aim of providing a better working relation- ship between policy and resouce provision.
