I note that at the end of his letter Nr Macilanara made a suggestion regarding the appointment of the next Governor of Hong Kong. The term of office of the present Governor, Sir Murray MacLehose, in whom HMG have every confidence, has. been extended until November 1978. I would not wish to snocu- late on what advice the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs might give to ller Majesty The Queen "hen the time comes to appoint a new Governor.
