Action in Hong Kong

the five offices of the Local Employment Service already provide the free employment placement service stipulated by Article 2. A sub-committee of the Labour Advisory Board for this purpose held its first meeting on 10th August 1976. A proposed improved declaration together with a trial report was submitted to FCO on 28.9.1976.

a modification will still be needed in respect of Article 1 in relation to the frequency of statistical reporting. Hong Kong has only recently started (September 1975) to collect unemployment statistics on a six-monthly basis as compared with the three-monthly basis stipulated in the Convention.

improved application is now possible with the enactment of the Employment (Amendment) (No. 2) Ordinance on 24th November 1976 whereby employees covered by this ordinance will from 2nd January 1977 te be entitled to one rest day in every seven days, thus increasing the total number of rest days from 48 to 52 per annum. A proposal to amend the existing wording in the modifications in respect of Articles 2 and 5 was sent to FCO on 8th December 1976

on the basis of advice received from the Department of Trade, London, the Director of Marine will make use of the same supporting statements in respect of Articles 4, 9, 12 and 13 as have been made by the United Kingdom Government. A proposed improved declaration together with a trial report was sent to the FCO on 23rd November 1976
