On 14th December 1976, the Labour Advisory Board agreed to a proposal put forward by the Commissioner for Labour that section 2(3)(a) of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance should be deleted in order to meet fully the requirements of Convention No. 5. This amendment has been included enongst la number of other amendments to the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Crdinance which are now being processed. Subject to satisfactory progress being made in drafting the necessary legislation, and subject to the advice of the Executive Council, we expect to be able to introduce the Factories and Industrial Undertakings (Amendment) Bill 1977 into the legislative Council during the second quarter of this year. If all goes well, the necessary legislation should be enacted by about July 1977. We will notify you as soon as this is through.
