acquisition of easements for MTR station entrances, ventilation shafts, running lines and so on;

(iii) the continuing protection of MTR routes.

Traffic and utility diversions, transport integration and other measures affecting the public:

(i) the planning of traffic diversions to facilitate

MTR construction;

(ii) the planning and diversion of Government

utilities in conjunction with those of the utility companies;

(iii) the location and design of MTR stations and their entrances, in conjunction with surface public transport interchange facilities;

(iv) the planning of complementary and supple-

mentary surface transport services.

Associated public works :

the programming of Public Works projects to accord with MTR construction plans.

Legislation:

the amending of the Mass Transit Railway (Land Resumption and Related Provisions) Ordinance (Chap- ter 276), to make it apply to the proposed extension.

Most of the additional staff needed for this work would be employed in the Public Works Department, with some in the Transport Depart- ment. The cost of those processing the Corporation's land require - ments would be covered in the same way as for the MIS. It is proposed that the cost of staff for other work would be recovered from the Corporation only in so far as the work involved was commissioned directly by the Corporation, in accordance with the procedures already agreed between the Government and the Corporation for the MIS.
