Civil works: GEC reported that, following talks which had taken place in Hong Kong with local contractors, they would be in a position to quote a price for erection by the promised date of 8 December. There was still uncertainty as to whether CLP/PEPCO wanted the cost of erection included in the main package but the quotation would be presented to CLP/PEPCO as a separate item.
Overhead transmission link: Balfour Beatty said that CLP/PEPCO were still considering alternative methods of crossing eg tunnels. They believed that CLP/PEPCO were close to a decision and they therefore wished to be represented on the negotiating team. It seemed unlikely however that a Letter of Intent would be signed during the forthcoming visit.
Mainland transmission system: It was agreed that, although UK companies were interested in this development, the negotiating team would resist any proposal to include any stages of this in the package.
It was agreed that Mr Lippitt should discuss this matter with Sir Lawrence Kadoorie in Hong Kong and take it up again with interested UK companies in the new year.
It was agreed that a final briefing meeting would be held in Hong Kong on either Sunday 11 December or during the following moming, whichever was the more convenient at the time.
