Ple. CERTAZZ MR. MURRAY TROJ FED

We have learnt from the British Trade Commissioner in Hong Kong that Sir Lawrence Kadoorie has left with him a present for the Prime Minister as a token of esteem, and in appreciation of the meeting which the Prime Minister had with him recently.
The present is a Chinese Jade box, and although we have no precise idea of its worth we suspect that it might be quite valuable. The British Trade Commissioner would like to know whether the Prime Minister wishes in principle to accept the gift before it is entrusted to, the bag. Our advice is that in view of the value which Sir Lawrence clearly attaches to the Prime Minister's personal interest in this matter, and to his British connection generally, it would be right for the Prime Minister to accept.
I should be grateful to have your advice on this.
Copies of this letter go to Ewen Fergusson (Foreign and Commonwealth Office) and to Martyn Baker (Department of Trade).
Yours sincerely,
Топи что
