1. As arranged when we spoke on the telephone this afternoon I am sending you the original of Sir Lawrence Kadoorie's letter of 1 July to the Prime Minister together with the piece of jade which Sir Lawrence wishes to give to Mr Callaghan. I also enclose a copy of Sir Lawrence's letter for your records.
2. We agreed that the most straightforward way of passing on Sir Lawrence's letter and his gift to Number Ten would be through Mr Alan Williams' office. (Mr Cartledge's letter of 6 July to Mr Mills, which said that Mr Callaghan would accept Sir Lawrence's gift for display in the Prime Ministerial collection, refers). Perhaps you would ask Mr Williams' office to copy their letter to Number Ten to our Private Office in order to complete our records.
