HONG KONG POWER STATION PROJECT: PASSPORTS FOR KADOORIE AND HIS WIFE
1.

As we agreed this morning, I have spoken to Mr Maulson (215-3760) in the DOI about how we are going to arrange for Sir Lawrence and Lady Kadoorie to be issued with second passports (paragraph 3 of my minute of 30 June to Mr Stewart at folio 122 on part B of the file).
2. I agreed with Mr Maulson that when Sir Lawrence Kadoorie is in the DOI next Monday afternoon, 25 July for his meeting with Mr Alan Williams (paragraph 2 of DTI telegram CREDA NO 168 of 15 July) Mr Williams' private secretary will ask him for the passports. If, as is perhaps likely, Sir Lawrence does not the passports with him the DOI will send someone to his hotel later to collect them. Thereafter the DOI will hand them over to us for action with the Passport Office on the lines I have arranged with Mr Harrod. If and when we get to that stage (it is not impossible that Sir Lawrence may have solved his passport problem in Geneva) could you make yourself responsible for taking the passports over to the Passport Office for the necessary treatment and for returning them to Mr Maulson in the DOI. Sir Lawrence Kadoorie and his wife are expected to be in London for a fortnight from this weekend but we should obviously aim to dispose of the passport problem as early on as possible in his visit.
