(iv) Mr Weaving reported that Mr Stones had

expressed a preference for Babcock and Wilcox boilers over the International Combustion design. The CEGB agreed with this view: the B & W system was proven and well suited for CLP requirements whereas IC had less experience with larger installations. Indeed before endorsing the IC design the CEGB would want to undertake some 6-9 months of tests: these could not be fitted into the timetable for the package.

In conclusion, it was agreed that Mr Macdonald should chair a meeting at which the CEGB should discuss the outcome of their Hong Kong talks with GEC and Babcock and Wilcox and the next stages of the work. The Department of Industry agreed to ask these companies in advance whether they had any objection to Mouchel being present at this mecting.
