Against this background the Government could define its
position to the Company in either of the following ways:

The Government is prepared to grant land near Tai Tsing Chau on North Lantau for a power station, subject to feasibility studies by the Company and to precise definition of the land required; Government considers that the construction of a road bridge or tunnel to Lantau is highly probable at some time, but is not in a posi- tion to advise the Company as to when, and if, any such crossing will be completed; Government will take the road access needs of the power station into account in reaching a decision on the need for, and the timing of, the construction of a bridge or tunnel;
Government will do its utmost to accommo- date the Company's needs in respect of quartering and transport, which would derive from siting the power station on North Lantau.
(i) The Government is preapred to grant land
near Tai Tsing Chau on North Lantau for a power station subject to feasibility studies by the Company and to precise definition of the land required;

Government considers that the construction
of a road bridge or tunnel to Lantau is necessary at some time, but is not in a position to advise the Company as to when, and if, such a crossing will be built until satisfied by a feasibility study. This will be put in hand immediately; provided that the results of the feasibility study are satisfactory, and subject to the approval of the necessary funds by the Finance Committee, the Government's intention is to proceed with construction
of a road bridge or tunnel as soon as possible; (iv) Government will do its utmost to accommodate
the Company's needs in respect of quartering
and transport, which would derive from siting
the power station on North Lantau.
