Mr Lippitt confirmed that in the light of Mr Macdonald's visit to Hong Kong, the visit by a team planned for this week had been postponed. The purpose of the meeting was therefore to discuss the appropriate course of action to be taken on the basis of Mr Macdonald's report.
REPORT OF VISIT BY MR MACDONALD AND MR GEMMILL TO HONG KONG 13-16 JUNE
2 Mr Macdonald said that, accompanied by the Senior British Trade Commissioner (Mr March) he had met Sir Lawrence Kadoorie three times twice in formal sessions with representatives of PEPCO/CLP/Schroder and Chartered and once for a long private discussion. He had also met Sir Murray MacLehose, the Governor of Hong Kong, and representatives of Schroder and Chartered Bank.
His main impressions from the visit were as follows:

because of the strongly rising trend in demand for electricity, CLP/PEPCO would ideally like to place an order for a power station fairly urgently. They would like to have additional capacity available by the end of 1981 if possible. With the exception of the transmission system, the other elements in the programme - pump storage, desalination etc must be regarded as long term opportunities;
